A failed break is still a complete study

False breaks · Journal

The False Break Filter Workshop exists because people throw away the chart once the wick is gone. A return to the box tells you who was trapped and where they may have to leave again.

We mark the extreme of the failed expansion as a new reference, then ask whether the original range still exists or whether one side has been consumed. If the original high is still the high, the box is alive. If the failed break took the high and then gave it back, the story has changed.

Invalidation for a failed-break study is written in the opposite direction of the pierce. Students practise saying that sentence aloud before the replay resumes. It feels theatrical until the third example, when the room sees how often the sentence was already true on the print.

We do not grade journals on whether the next move paid. We grade whether the page would still make sense if you handed it to the person at the next table.
